titleOfInvention | How to measure the physical properties of a sample |
abstract | (57) Abstract: A method for measuring a physical property of a sample using an optically detected image of acoustic fluctuation of the sample is provided. SOLUTION: An instantaneous local acoustic wave source is generated in a sample by an optical method, and an image of acoustic fluctuation propagating in the sample is acquired from the acoustic wave source. For example, for a region of 90 μm × 90 μm on the surface of a sample (a polycrystalline gold thin film on a crown glass substrate), images of acoustic fluctuation at three consecutive times were obtained. By subjecting the obtained image to signal processing according to the present invention, the acoustic dispersion relationship of the sample is experimentally obtained. The obtained dispersion relation is compared with the dispersion relation theoretically predicted separately, and the parameters of the physical properties of the sample used for the theoretical prediction are adjusted so that the difference between them is minimized. This has made it possible to measure the physical properties of the sample, such as the thickness, elastic constant, and density of the material. |
