abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a phosphor suitable for a cathode ray tube capable of obtaining a high-resolution and high-luminance image, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The ratio of the content of the γ-Y2Si2O7 crystal phase to the content of the Y2SiO5 crystal phase is 2 to 7%, the spherical phase being the main component being a Y2SiO5 crystal phase in which an activator is dispersed. The phosphor has a β-Y2Si2O7 phase content ratio of less than 0.1%. This phosphor is produced by performing a sphering treatment with thermal plasma and then performing a heat treatment at 1500 to 1700 ° C.
