abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining a 2,5-di (haloanilino) -3,6-dihydroterephthalic acid dialkyl ester compound in higher yield and higher productivity per unit lot. By further oxidizing and hydrolyzing the compound thus obtained, a 2,5-di (haloanilino) terephthalic acid compound can be obtained with higher productivity. SOLUTION: A 2,5-di (haloanilino) -3,6-dihydroterephthalic acid dialkyl ester is obtained by reacting a dialkyl succinosuccinate compound with an aniline compound having a functional group selected from a halogen atom on an aromatic ring in a solvent. In the method for producing a compound, a liquid medium containing methanol is used as the solvent, a method for producing a dialkyl 2,5-di (haloanilino) -3,6-dihydroterephthalate compound, and oxidizing and hydrolyzing the compound.
