PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hydrogenate a polymer obtained by copolymerizing a conjugated diene monomer and an α, β-unsaturated nitrile monomer in the presence of a molecular weight regulator having a mercapto group. Provided are a polymer which can be advantageously used and a method for producing the polymer. SOLUTION: A step (A) of copolymerizing a conjugated diene monomer and an α, β-unsaturated nitrile monomer in the presence of a molecular weight regulator having a mercapto group; and in the presence of a base compound, By heating the polymerization reaction solution containing the unreacted α, β-unsaturated nitrile monomer (B), a polymer having a residual amount of the molecular weight modifier of 40 ppm or less is produced. A hydrogenated polymer is produced using this polymer. |
