[PROBLEMS] To provide a substrate identification circuit which generates a value unique to a substrate at low cost and which is difficult to duplicate, and a semiconductor device having such a substrate identification circuit. A TF formed on a substrate having an insulating surface The substrate identification circuit 304 is manufactured using the characteristic variation of T. The substrate identification circuit 304 has a plurality of unique bit generation circuits. Each of the unique bit generation circuits includes a plurality of TFTs, and outputs a 1-bit random number based on variation in characteristics of the plurality of TFTs. Then, the board identification circuit generates a numerical value unique to the board using the 1-bit random number. The board identification circuit may include a circuit that determines by comparing a numeric value unique to the board with an identification number input from the outside. |
