abstract (57) [Problem] To form an optimum bond between a catalyst layer and a polymer film. The present invention relates to a method for making a polymer electrolyte membrane having two opposing membrane surfaces and a membrane electrode assembly comprising a cathode electrode and an anode electrode comprising a catalyst layer and a gas distribution layer, respectively. Each catalyst layer is sandwiched between the membrane surface and its corresponding gas distribution layer. The cathode catalyst layer and the anode catalyst layer include at least two sublayers. According to the invention, at least one sublayer of the cathode electrode and / or the anode electrode is applied directly to the membrane surface, while the remaining sublayers are applied to the corresponding gas distribution layers. Finally, An assembly of the coated membrane and the coated gas distribution layer is created.
