To provide a liquid organic fuel cell using a solid electrolyte membrane (18). An organic fuel, such as a methanol / water mixture, is circulated through the anode (14) of the cell, while Oxygen or air is circulated through the cathode (16). The electrolyte membrane of the battery is preferably made of Nafion (trademark). A method for improving the performance of the carbon electrode structure is also provided. That is, a method of impregnating an electrode with Nafion ™ by immersing a large surface area carbon particle / Teflon ™ binder structure in a Nafion / methanol bath. In this fuel cell anode manufacturing method, a metal alloy is deposited on an electrode from a solution containing perfluorooctane sulfonic acid. The acid-containing fuel additive and the novel organic fuel are also described. |
