abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a novel method for producing a 2-substituted-5-phenylbenzonitrile compound. SOLUTION: Expression (1) Wherein the aniline compound represented by the formula (1) is reacted with a lower alkyl nitrite in the presence of benzene. A method for producing a 2-substituted-5-phenylbenzonitrile compound represented by the formula: Wherein an aniline compound represented by the formula (1) obtained by reacting a nitrobenzene compound represented by the formula (1) with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst is reacted with a lower alkyl ester of nitrite in the presence of benzene. A method for producing a 2-substituted-5-phenylbenzonitrile compound represented by (2).
