PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst which has a long life and can be an economical catalyst in a system for synthesizing a carboxylic acid ester from an aldehyde compound typified by a Tischenko reaction. As an issue. Another object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing carboxylic esters using the catalyst. SOLUTION: The present inventors have found that a solid obtained by bringing silica and aluminum alkoxide into contact can be usefully used as a catalyst for producing a carboxylic acid ester by a dimerization reaction of an aldehyde compound.
