abstract (57) [Summary] [PROBLEMS] To improve the delay of the response speed in low gradation, enable high-speed halftone response, and realize a highly reliable image display having moving image performance almost equivalent to that of a CRT. SOLUTION: A fine electrode pattern 21 is formed at equal intervals on a pixel electrode 5 so as to be finely symmetrical with respect to a strip-shaped portion and formed in a symmetrical comb-like shape, and a strip-shaped dielectric layer 22 is formed so as to cover this. Are formed at equal intervals in the display pixels. Due to the presence of the dielectric layer 22 and the fine electrode pattern 21 that complements the dielectric layer 22, the formation site thereof becomes the high threshold region 23. Thus, a low threshold region 24 where the dielectric layer 22 does not exist relatively is formed.
