abstract (57) [Problem] To produce a polarizing film which is lightweight and thin and has good optical characteristics. SOLUTION: A step of applying a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin to a base resin film, a step of uniaxially stretching the obtained laminated film so that the thickness of the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin layer is 10 μm or less, and A method for producing a polarizing film comprising a step of adsorbing and orienting a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin layer, wherein a length in a direction orthogonal to the stretching direction is reduced by 2% or more after or / and during transverse uniaxial stretching. By doing so, a polarizing film is manufactured. A dichroic organic dye or iodine is adsorbed and oriented on a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film having a film thickness of 10 μm or less. A dye-based polarizing film having a specific relationship (λmax) and an iodine-based polarizing film having a specific relationship between a single transmittance Ty and a degree of polarization Py in the case of iodine are also provided.
