abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel method for distilling styrene or a styrene derivative which does not show the drawbacks of the conventional method. SOLUTION: 1,2,4-benzenetriol or a derivative thereof is used as a polymerization inhibitor and represented by the following general formula (II): (In the formula, Y represents an alkyl group, a haloalkyl group, an aryl group, an arylalkyl group, an alkoxyalkyl group, an alkylcarbonyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an arylalkoxycarbonyl group, or an alkylsilyl group). A method for distilling styrene or a styrene derivative has been developed, which comprises distilling the styrene or the styrene derivative in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor in addition to the derivative. According to this method, the formation of a highly viscous polymeric substance during the distillation step was prevented, and the effect of recovering the distilled styrene or styrene derivative was high. |
