abstract (57) Abstract: Provided is a liquid crystal display device in which the amount of water dissolved in a liquid crystal material is reduced, thereby reducing the display defect rate accompanying the improvement in specific resistance and the reduction in specific resistance. In a liquid crystal display device including a pair of substrates on which an alignment control film is formed and the liquid crystal layer sandwiching the alignment control film in contact with the liquid crystal layer, at least one of the substrates and the substrate is formed on the substrate. A liquid crystal display device having a layer structure containing a water-absorbing organic substance between the alignment control film and the alignment control film.
