titleOfInvention Acid catalyzed copolymerization of water and epoxy resin and its use
abstract (57) Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a non-gelling polymeric polyol produced by copolymerization of an epoxy resin and water promoted by an acid catalyst. SOLUTION: When the starting resin is an epoxy resin derived from bisphenol A, bisphenol A and bisphenol in the obtained product are compared with conventional epoxy resins of similar molecular weight produced by advanced processes. The level of diglycidyl ether of A (DGEBA) is much lower. The product can be cured with an OH-active cross-linking agent such as an amino resin or polyisocyanate, resulting in a thermosetting coating with useful properties.
