abstract | (57) [Summary]nPolymerization of 1,3-butadiene using a catalyst system comprising (a) a neodymium-containing compound, (b) an aluminoxane or a trialkylaluminum compound, (c) an organoaluminum hydride, and (d) a halogen source results in a low level. A method for producing high molecular weight high cis polybutadiene is described. Also disclosed is the use of a blend of high molecular weight high cis polybutadiene and low molecular weight high cis polybutadiene on the tread of a pneumatic tire. The low molecular weight polymer has at least 70 percent cis and the high molecular weight polymer has at least 92 percent such that both the high molecular weight polymer and the low molecular weight polymer have a desirably high cis content. Cis. Both polymers are desirably formed using a neodymium catalyst system. Such a blend exhibits a balance of properties including good snow and wet adhesion and good rolling resistance, as well as a good balance of physical properties including tensile at break, tensile stress, etc. . |
