(57) [Summary]nMethods are described that inhibit the growth of tumor cells by treatment with a combination of a selenium-containing prodrug and an enzyme from which it is a substrate. This treatment also enhances the effect of the antitumor agent. More specifically, the above method comprises treating a tumor cell with a selenium prodrug lyase and a selenium-containing prodrug in an amount sufficient to inhibit the growth of the tumor cell. The selenium prodrug lyase includes P. selenium. methionine γ-lyase which can be isolated from Putida. |
