(57) [Summary]nChemical compositions and methods of using the compositions have been described. The chemical composition includes aza-enedyne, aza-enene arene, or aza-dialene. These compounds are preferably non-hydrolyzable, cationic compounds that bind to nucleic acids. In addition, these compounds are believed to proceed in the presence of the nucleic acid to a chemical reaction that generates a reaction intermediate that cleaves the nucleic acid. |
