abstract |
(57) Abstract: A composite thermal insulation coating system is a metal honeycomb structure (2) filled with hollow, high coefficient of thermal expansion ceramic spheres (6) in a phosphate bonding matrix. The composite thermal barrier coating system can provide higher temperature protection at thicknesses (T) that exceed current thermal barrier coating systems. Excellent erosion resistance and abrasion resistance are also obtained. Composite thermal barrier coatings are useful for combustion turbines such as ring seal segments, vane segment shrouds, transitions and combustors. |
