titleOfInvention | Pharmaceutical composition comprising a nitrate source and an acidifying agent for treating cutaneous ischemia |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nProvided is the use of acidified nitrite as a drug to cause local production of nitric oxide on the skin surface in the treatment of peripheral ischemia and related conditions. The dosage form can be any pharmaceutically acceptable carrier means and includes an acidifying agent applied to reduce the pH of the environment. The membrane barrier diffuses nitrite ions but prevents direct contact of the skin with the acidifying agent. Among the many potential applications of the present invention are the treatment of peripheral ischemic conditions such as chronic skin scars, Raynaud's phenomenon. Compositions and methods for these applications are described. |
