titleOfInvention | Selective retention of filler components and improved control of sheet properties through improved additive pretreatment |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nA method of promoting retention and drainage of filler components in a papermaking furnish in a papermaking process, the method comprising: producing a slurry of filler components; from about 0.003% to about 2% by weight based on total solids. Producing a slurry of a pretreated filler component by treating the slurry with 0.0% by weight of a phenolic promoter; adding the pretreated slurry to the furnish; and And from about 0.003% to about 0.5% by weight, based on the total solids in the slurry, of a polymer flocculant, thereby providing a filler in the papermaking furnish. Promotes retention and drainage of ingredients. Suitable accelerators are condensates of phenol and formaldehyde, and suitable flocculants include acrylamide, methacrylamide, and / or N-vinylformamide. The method provides important benefits in many papermaking applications where the desired filler components are retained in the final sheet, while undesirable filler components, such as recycled papermaking paper. The ink and dye particles present in the pigment are not retained. |
