(57) Abstract An exemplary composition comprises a plurality of particles to be dispersed (eg, calcium carbonate or a binder material, eg, Portland cement) and a compound for dispersing the plurality of particles. These compounds are linked by an amine, amide, imide, or urea group to a non-sugar substituent comprising one or more alkyl, aryl, alkylaryl, oxyalkylene, polyoxyalkylene groups, or mixtures thereof. Comprising a group of a sugar or a sugar derivative. Exemplary compounds for dispersing the particles and modifying the properties of the hydratable composition, such as a cementitious mixture (eg, concrete, mesonry, mortar, or cement), and for preparing these compounds and for preparing the particles and A method for modifying a containing composition is disclosed. These compounds and methods are useful in cement and cementitious compositions to enhance flow, strength and crush performance, or other properties. It is believed that the present invention also provides one or more of these properties in an aqueous environment (eg, a slurry) in which the particles, eg, cement particles, are dispersed. |
