titleOfInvention | Method for driving an array of optical elements |
abstract | (57) Abstract Related to writing to an array of optical elements that are switched between two states according to a set of input data. In the first method, the data is written in two steps, where different selected elements are driven into one binary state and the other binary state, respectively. The two sets of selected elements may be complementary, but are preferably only those that need to change from the existing state. The latter criterion can be used in another way to change the state in any direction that requires an element, using a single address operation of the array. Further, in the alternative method shown in the figure, only selected elements of the blank array are written to correspond to the data set in a first WRITE step, followed by a second ERASE step in which the selected elements Are selectively erased and return to a blank array before the next set of data is written and erased. This method is particularly useful for maintaining DC balance in the pixels of a liquid crystal array. |
