Fatty acyl-CoA: fatty alcohol acyltransferase |
abstract |
(57) [Summary]nThe present invention provides nucleic acid sequences encoding fatty acyl-CoA: fatty alcohol acyltransferases (wax synthases) that are active in the formation of wax esters from fatty alcohol and fatty acyl-CoA substrates. Of particular interest is the nucleic acid sequence available from jojoba embryo wax synthase having an apparent molecular weight of about 33 kD. Also contemplated are the amino acid and nucleic acid sequences available from wax synthase proteins, and the use of such sequences to obtain transgenic host cells capable of producing wax esters. |
