abstract (57) [Problem] To provide means for achieving diesel engine operation with low particulate emission. SOLUTION: A catalyst fine particle oxidizing member (14) having a plurality of plates having a catalytically corrugated surface provided for generating a large number of contact points with fine particles in exhaust gas is used. Preferably, the fuel comprises diphenylcyclooctadiene platinum (II) or a catalyst adduct (29) such as platinum acetylacetonate and / or a fuel-soluble organometallic compound of cerium, iron, copper or manganese. Alternatively, platinum group metals and other catalyst compounds are added to the exhaust gas and combustion air.
