(57) [Summary]nThe present invention provides recombinant cells, reaction mixtures, and methods that are useful for enzymatic synthesis of saccharide products. The recombinant cell contains a heterologous gene encoding a glycosyltransferase. Glycosyltransferases catalyze at least one step of enzyme synthesis and a system for nucleotide sugars that can serve as substrates for glycosyltransferases. The recombinant cells, reaction mixtures, and methods are useful for efficiently synthesizing a wide variety of saccharides, including polysaccharides, oligosaccharides, glycoproteins and glycolipids, using inexpensive starting materials. . |
