(57) Abstract A detection device (10) for detecting and identifying vehicles or other events that exert a force on a road or other structure (20) is disclosed. The force applied by the vehicle is analyzed to generate a force signal that is unique to the vehicle (22) and can therefore be used to identify individual vehicles. Other mechanical events that can be detected and identified include pedestrians, motorcycles, avalanches, road degradation, structural defects in bridges and other structures, bicycles, and railway trains. |
