(57) [Summary]nA multi-component vaccine is provided for the prevention and treatment of staphylococcal bacterial infections and which comprises a bacterial binding protein or a fragment thereof, or certain combinations of antibodies to these proteins or fragments. Careful selection of such proteins, fragments or antibodies provides a vaccine that provides protection against a variety of staphylococcal bacteria and protection against proteins expressed at various stages of the exponential growth curve. In one embodiment of the present invention, at least a collagen-binding protein or peptide such as CNA (or a site-specific mutant sequence thereof) or a protein or fragment with sufficiently high homology thereto is bound to fibrinogen binding. Proteins, preferably clamping factor A (abbreviated as "ClfA") or clamping factor B (abbreviated as "ClfB"), or useful fragments thereof or proteins or fragments having sufficiently high homology thereto A composition is provided that contains in combination with: The vaccines and products of the present invention meet the urgent demands of the medical community for alternatives to small molecule antibiotics that are rapidly losing efficacy and yet provide effective protection against a wide variety of bacterial infections.
