titleOfInvention | Method for producing styrene and propylene oexide |
abstract | (57) [Summary]n(A) reacting ethene with benzene to form ethylbenzene, (b) reacting ethylbenzene with oxygen or air to form ethylbenzene hydroperoxide, and (c) at least a portion of the resulting ethylbenzene hydroperoxide. Reacting with propene in the presence of an epoxidation catalyst to form propylene oxide and 1-phenylethanol; and (d) converting at least a portion of the resulting 1-phenylethanol to styrene in the presence of a suitable dehydration catalyst. A method for simultaneously producing styrene and propylene oxide including a dehydration step, wherein at least a part of ethene used in step (a) and propene used in step (c) are provided by a fluid catalytic cracking unit.
