(57) [Summary]nThe present invention provides polynucleotides of the enzyme APAO and related polypeptides isolated from Exophiala spinifera and Rhinocladiella atrovirens. In addition, polynucleotides encoding APAO enzymes can be used to transform plant cells that are commonly susceptible to Fusarium or other toxic-producing mold infections. Plants can be regenerated from transgenic plant cells. Further, the present invention provides for the expression of both APAO and fumonisin esterase in transformed plants. In this way, a transformed plant having the ability to degrade fumonisin and produce a degrading enzyme is produced. In addition, the present invention provides methods for producing APAO enzymes in both prokaryotic and non-plant eukaryotic systems. Methods for detoxifying cereals, grain processing, silage, edible crops, and with animal feed and rumen microorganisms are also disclosed. |
