| abstract | SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A pre-loaded Foley catheter for urinating a conventional catheter for releasing sterile water from the proximal valve (21) of the catheter to fill the anchoring valve (20) at the distal end of the device. The clip is replaced by a plug (25) having an annulus connected to a thin shaft (27) by a weak circle. Flicking the shaft (27) out of the annulus, through the opaque latex lumen, provides a tactile signal that the catheter has been activated. There are no separate clips to dispose of. The interface between latex and plug remains undisturbed. A further improvement in the shelf life and convenience of use of the catheter is that a sleeve, which may be made of shrink wrap around the valve (21) and optionally around the drainage fitting (15), is provided. Achieved by using An apparatus for placing the plug and sleeve is also described. |
