abstract | (57) [Summary]nKind Code: A1 Genes for β-galactosidase II and related polypeptides are cloned using known methods for modifying plant gene expression, thereby modifying fruit quality, especially cell wall.nThe novel β-galactosidase genes and DNA sequences derived from the cloning of cDNA, cDNA encoded products of these genes, as exemplified by the cDNA, beta-galactosidase II protein encoded by pZBG2-1-4. Also provided is a method of modifying cell wall metabolism which comprises modifying the activity of at least one beta-galactosidase and thus modifying fruit quality. |
