abstract (57) Summary The present invention relates to a zinc aluminate characterized by having a specific surface area of at least 85 m 2 / g after calcination at 800 ° C for 8 hours. The present invention also relates to the precursor composition of the aluminate. The method for producing the aluminate and the composition comprises a step of combining a zinc salt, sol or alkoxide with an aluminum alkoxide in a solvent, and adding an excess amount of water to the mixture thus formed with respect to the aluminum alkoxide. Hydrolyzing the precipitate, collecting and optionally drying the formed precipitate, thereby obtaining a precursor composition, and, if necessary, calcining the precipitate, thereby obtaining an aluminate. . Finally, the invention also relates to the use of said aluminates in a method for treating automotive exhaust gases.
