(57) [Summary]nDisclosed are peptides and RNA oligonucleotides for inhibiting translation of mRNA and methods of use. This inhibition of translation of the mRNA is initiated at the internal ribosome entry site of the mRNA and requires binding of a protein factor to that site. Disclosed are peptides that include a La autoantigen binding domain (LAP). LAP peptides, alone or in combination with inhibitor RNA oligonucleotides (IRNA), can be used as antiviral agents that inhibit internal ribosome entry site (IRES) -mediated virus replication. |
