abstract SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A data communication receiver includes conventional means for receiving and demodulating a synchronous pulse modulated signal to provide baseband I and Q signals. A pair of absolute value generators process the baseband I and Q signals and provide absolute value I and Q signals. The absolute I and Q signals are combined to form a combined I and Q signal. The combined I and Q signals are applied to a third absolute value generator. The output of the absolute value generator is filtered by a low order filter at a baud rate or a higher rate to produce a recovered clock signal.
