titleOfInvention | System and method for capturing a corneal profile |
abstract | (57) Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for generating an image of a portion of a patient's eye (E), such as the anterior surface of the cornea. The methods and apparatus of the present invention provide for the incision of the cornea during or immediately after a laser incision procedure, such as refractive keratometry (PRK), phototherapy keratotomy (PTK), laser in situ keratoplasty (LASIK). It is particularly useful for directly capturing the profile of a region that has been lost. According to these methods and apparatus, a physician can accurately image the outer edge of the eye, characterize the profile of the incised cornea, and determine the spatial variation of tissue incision during the surgical procedure. Can be. Also provided is a method and apparatus for generating one or more images (4, 20, 30, 26) indicative of the profile of the incised area of the cornea. The profile is aligned with the pre-incision profile and provides feedback on the true dissection characteristics of the eye. This feedback allows the laser system to be programmed with a laser lancing algorithm based on the measured lancing characteristics of the eye. |
