abstract (57) [Summary]nThe present invention discloses a process for preparing a sulfonated polymer composition comprising reacting a water-dispersible isocyanate-terminated polyurethane prepolymer in the presence of an aqueous polyvinyl dispersion that can contain active hydrogen. The present invention further discloses an aqueous sulfonated polyurethane-polyvinyl hybrid latex using a sulfonated polyurethane as a seed for polymerization of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and a method for producing the same. The compositions of the present invention are characterized by forming an interpenetrating polymer network or core-shell structure and exhibiting improved mechanical and adhesive properties.
