Continuous reduction of carbonyl compounds |
abstract |
(57) [Summary]nThe present invention relates to a continuous process for producing primary or secondary alcohols by reducing the corresponding aldehyde or ketone using a secondary aliphatic alcohol as hydrogen donor in the presence of a catalyst. . The reduction takes place in the gas phase and partially dehydrated amorphous zirconium hydroxide is used as catalyst. The present invention is also suitable for selectively reducing α, β-unsaturated aldehydes and ketones. If the reaction is carried out at a higher temperature, the corresponding olefin can be obtained directly from the ketone via dehydration of the resulting secondary alcohol. |
