titleOfInvention | Process for continuous hydrogenation of adiponitrile |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nA process for the continuous hydrogenation of adiponitrile (ADN) to hexamethylenediamine (HMD) and optionally aminocapronitrile (ACN), comprising sponge-like reaction in a substantially caustic-free reaction medium. A process having catalytic hydrogenation of adiponitrile at a relatively low temperature (eg, 75 ° C.) and pressure (eg, 500 psig) using a cobalt catalyst (Raney® Co). In such a process, the periodic addition of water controls the formation of side reaction products and the periodic addition of ammonium hydroxide restores the catalyst. Hexamethylenediamine is an important intermediate for synthesizing polyamides such as nylon-6,6. Aminocapronitrile is a potent intermediate for nylon-6. |
