titleOfInvention Hernia mesh
abstract (57) [Summary]nThe present invention provides a flexible fibrous hernia mesh that is implanted near a hernia injury. The mesh has at least two functional components: two layers: (1) a first layer that degrades rapidly, and (2) a second layer that degrades more slowly (compared to the first layer). . The use of the fibrous mesh of the present invention allows closure of the herniated lesion so that a) the second layer supports the area until the scar tissue is sufficiently strong (about 6 months) to form a hernia. B) faster degradation of the first layer induces scar tissue formation via an inflammatory response; and c) the second layer isolates the first layer from the abdominal cavity and allows tissue to enter the intestine. Adhesion to tissue is suppressed. The mesh is placed over the exposed fascia area such that the more rapidly absorbed surface (first layer) is in contact with the fascia.
