abstract | (57) [Summary]n The present invention is a method for inhibiting membrane-type matrix metalloproteinase (MT-MMP) activity in a biological system. Accordingly, the present invention allows for the treatment of medical conditions in mammals characterized by MT-MMP activity, particularly those characterized by excessive MT-MMP activity. The method comprises a tetracycline compound, preferably a non-antibacterial tetracycline, more preferably 6-demethyl-6-deoxy-4-de (dimethylamino) tetracycline (CMT-3) or 6-α-deoxy-5-hydroxy-4-. De- (dimethylamino) tetracycline (CMT-8) is used to inhibit MT-MMP activity. |
