titleOfInvention Layered absorbent structure with segmented basis weight and heterogeneous layer area
abstract (57) Abstract: A unique absorbent comprising an absorbent core having a plurality of absorbent layers, wherein the absorbent layers interact to preferentially place the liquid within a designated highly saturated guiding layer. The localization of the liquid in the guiding layer increases the ability of this layer to transfer liquid by capillary action by increasing the level of saturation and the amount of liquid available. The uptake capacity of the absorption system can be improved as much as or better than current systems by making the second layer of the absorption system a low saturation level by maximizing the liquid absorption of the product, Appropriate control of composite properties will provide optimal uptake performance. The low saturation level of this layer is also high absorbing so that it provides void volume for incoming liquid absorption, i.e., increases the uptake rate of the absorption system as a whole, while the low saturation layer reduces leakage generation. It is balanced to provide adequate high capillary forces to provide sufficient control of the liquid to prevent. This low saturation layer is used separately from the surge material and provides a different uptake function than that provided by the surge material. In certain aspects of the invention, the body-side layer of the absorbent core does not extend over the entire surface of the entire absorbent core, and thus is not used as a highly saturated guiding layer, but is used as an intake layer. This configuration also allows the intake layer to be in direct contact with the incoming liquid, thus allowing for even more immediate access and improved intake capabilities. In another aspect, the at least one main layer region has a non-uniform, selectively segmented basis weight distribution. The specific structure of at least one main layer region can constitute a target region of this main layer region having a basis weight smaller than that of the other non-target regions. Further, at least one main layer region can have a heterogeneous structure. In certain structures, at least one main layer region can include a plurality of two or more sub-layers.
