titleOfInvention Non-linear earplugs that selectively attenuate sound
abstract (57) SUMMARY The present invention provides a selective non-linear sound attenuating earplug (10). The earplug (10) can be adjusted by the wearer and the function of the earplug can be selected. The earplug (10) of the present invention can function in either a selective sound reduction mode or a maximum sound reduction mode. The selective function of the earplugs allows the wearer to select a desired degree of sound reduction depending on the particular surrounding environment. In the selective noise reduction mode, the noise reduction degree is low for a specific intensity range, and the noise reduction degree is increased for noise having an intensity exceeding the specific range. Selective sound reduction is particularly effective for loud noise. The benefits of the selective sound reduction mode are best exhibited in a noisy environment where the required conversations can be heard while protecting from dangerous noises.
