PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicon carbide porous body which can be manufactured at low cost, has high porosity, high thermal conductivity, and has improved strength, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The silicon carbide-based porous body contains silicon carbide particles serving as an aggregate and metal silicon. The average pore diameter of the silicon carbide-based porous body is at least 0.25 times the average particle diameter of the silicon carbide particles. This silicon carbide-based porous body is formed by adding metal silicon and an organic binder to a silicon carbide particle raw material, mixing and kneading, forming a kneaded material into a predetermined shape, and calcining the obtained formed body to form a formed body. After removing the organic binder in the body, it is manufactured by performing main firing under a reduced pressure atmosphere. |
