PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel catalyst capable of producing a corresponding aromatic aldehyde in a high yield by vapor-phase oxidation of alkylbenzenes in the presence of molecular oxygen, and a method for producing alkylbenzenes using the catalyst A process for producing the corresponding aromatic aldehyde in high yield is provided. A catalyst for producing a corresponding aromatic aldehyde by subjecting alkylbenzenes to gas phase oxidation in the presence of molecular oxygen, comprising tungsten and antimony, and further comprising niobium, tantalum, zirconium and titanium. A catalyst for oxidizing alkylbenzenes, comprising an oxide of at least one metal selected from the group or a composite oxide of two or more metals. |
