(57) [Problem] To provide a method for evaluating a polymerization catalyst. SOLUTION: The general formula (1) is represented by M (R) 4 (wherein M represents a transition metal atom of Group 4; R represents a hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent). A polymerization catalyst characterized by reacting a transition metal compound with a ligand forming a covalent bond with M of the transition metal compound, and subjecting the resulting metal complex to a polymerization reaction with an olefin without isolation.
