abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable and economical system for sealing a sheet of separator material 20 around an electrode. According to the present invention, an opening in the separator material is cut by a computer controlled cutting system, a press is combined with a heat sealing device, the upper and lower platens are pressed together, and the upper platen is pressed against a pressure pad. The separator material is cut and sealed between the pressure pad and the heating element.
