abstract (57) Abstract: A colorant for use in tinting a contact lens is provided. The binding polymer used in the present invention can form a permeable polymer network with the lens material. When the colorant of the present invention is applied to an uncured lens material that is subsequently cured, the associative polymer forms a permeable polymer network with the lens material, which polymer network converts the colorant into the lens material. By deeply penetrating into the lens, a stable tinted lens can be formed.
