abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently purify a canister with a small heater power. SOLUTION: Evaporated fuel from a fuel tank 11 of an internal combustion engine 100 is introduced into a canister 10 through a breather pipe 13, and is adsorbed by adsorbents 50a and 50b in the canister. During operation of the engine, the purge control valve 15 is opened and the CCV 17 is opened to introduce air into the canister, Purge evaporated fuel from the adsorbent. Heaters 20a and 20b for heating the adsorbent are provided in the canister so that the adsorbent can be heated. When the specified conditions are satisfied during engine operation, The electronic control unit (ECU) 30 closes the CCV while keeping the purge control valve open to maintain the inside of the canister at a negative pressure, and energizes the heater to heat the adsorbent. Since the desorption of the fuel vapor from the adsorbent is promoted as the pressure is lower, the purging can be performed efficiently with less heating power.
