PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a volume reducing agent for expanded polystyrene, which has excellent solubility of expanded polystyrene, facilitates solvent separation and hardly discolors the recovered polystyrene, and a method for recovering expanded polystyrene using the same. I will provide a. SOLUTION: An esterified product of an acid and an alcohol having 1 to 12 carbon atoms is used as a foamed polystyrene reducing agent. Polystyrene is dissolved in the volume reducing agent, and an alcohol is added to the solution to precipitate polystyrene. The deposited polystyrene is separated from the mixed solution of the esterified product and the alcohol to regenerate the polystyrene. The remaining mixed solvent is separated and recovered by membrane separation or the like and reused. |
