Polymerization of silicone microemulsions |
abstract |
Emulsions and latexes containing polymer particles having a diameter greater than 0.02 microns are produced. SOLUTION: (i) 0.02 by mixing water, a surfactant, a hydride-functional organosilicon oligomer or a mixture of such oligomers, and an alkenyl-functional organosilicon oligomer or a mixture of such oligomers. Forming a microemulsion comprising particles of the oligomer having a diameter of less than a micron; (ii) adding a catalyst to the microemulsion; (iii) initiating polymerization of the oligomer; and (iv) from 0.02 micron. The polymerization is continued until an emulsion or latex containing large diameter polymer particles is formed. |
